Mao Hamada

Gyrotonic Pre-Trainer, Senior Gyrotonic–Gyrokinesis Trainer

Mao, originally from Japan, began her Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis teaching career early in 2012. She is currently a Gyrotonic Pre-Trainer under BE Owner, Certifying Master Trainer Billy Macagnone and is certified in all of the Specialized Equipment, Gyrotonic Level 2, Therapeutic Applications and Applications for Dancers.

Mao has worked with clients range from the age of 5 to 88 that include professional dancers, dance students, athletes, artists, woman with pregnancy, and people who are recovering from injuries of many kinds. For the past few years she’s focused on using the Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis methods as cross-training and injury prevention for the next generation of young artists in Los Angeles and Japan.

Prior to becoming a Gyrotonic, Gyrokinesis instructor Mao studied dance. Ultimately she received a two year grant from The Agency of Cultural Affairs of Japan to train at the Ailey School, and she completed her BFA at the Conservatory of Dance at SUNY Purchase in New York. More recently she has had the opportunity to choreograph and set the work for YAGP one of the world's top dance competition as well as other national competitions in Japan. She originally turned to a Gyrotonic movement practice to deal with injuries and pain suffered after years of hard training and performance and now very much enjoys sharing the work with others.

Mao truly wishes to share the happiness of movement with everyone. All of her sessions are designed to be yours and very personalized. Mao feels very honored to be welcomed back at BE NYC, and looks forward to meeting everyone soon. She will offer group classes and private availability - look for her on the schedule!
